Henry Cavill Becomes The MCU’s Hyperion In Loki Fan Art

A new piece of Loki fan art imagines Henry Cavill as Hyperion in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Cavill famously inherited the role of Clark Kent in 2013 with Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel. He would go on to play Superman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the theatrical version of Justice League, and Snyder's own Justice League. Following Warner Bros./DC Films’ (now Warner Bros. Discovery) decision to abandon the Snyder-Verse, Cavill has seemingly hung up his cap to focus on projects like Netflix’s Enola Holmes, The Witcher, and the upcoming Highlander reboot.

Regardless of whether some version of Superman appears in the DCEU, Marvel's copies of Superman will certainly fly around the MCU—from Captain Marvel to Eternals’ Ikaris. One of Marvel’s earliest riffs on Superman—who has yet to appear in the MCU—is the Squadron Supreme's (a pastiche of DC’s Justice League) Hyperion. In addition to flight, the character possesses immense strength, speed, agility, and “atomic vision,” which is comparable to heat vision. Similar to The Boys’ Homelander, Hyperion is a deconstruction of Superman and is often considered evil. Earlier this week, rumors about Cavill playing Hyperion in Marvel Studios’ Loki season 2 began to circulate.

After Sylvie plunged her dagger into He Who Remains, Loki found himself staring at a statue of Kang the Conqueror at the end of season 1. With Jonathan Majors’ character confirmed to be the MCU’s new big bad, Kang is poised to be the villain of multiple projects, including Loki season 2, which is currently filming in the UK. As Loki, Sylvie, and Mobius traverse the multiverse, they could very well run into the Squadron Supreme and, in turn, Hyperion. While Cavill is also currently in England filming The Witcher season 3, rumors suggesting he's allying with Kang should be taken with a grain of salt.

Last month, Cavill was rumored to appear at San Diego Comic-Con to announce a return as the DCEU‘s Superman. Although that never came to pass, fans continue to lobby for Man of Steel 2 as Dwayne Johnson applies the pressure to bring back Cavill's Superman. However, Cavill may no longer be interested in the DCEU's cape. Following the Ezra Miller controversy, Warner Media’s merger with Discovery, and the cancellation of Batgirl, the DCEU is being reworked (again) in a foolhardy attempt to rival the MCU. Casting Cavil as an evil version of Superman in the universe would not only be meta but, perhaps, poetic justice.
