Minions: The Rise of Gru Honest Trailer Drags It For Continuity Issues
Minions: The Rise of Gru’s Honest Trailer pokes fun at the continuity issues and mind-numbing nature of the film. Minions: The Rise of Gru is the sequel to 2015’s Minions and the fifth film overall in the Despicable Me franchise. The movie saw immense box office success, grossing over $843.8 million worldwide. It far surpassed Pixar’s Lightyear and set the record for the highest-grossing July 4th opening weekend.
Now, Screen Junkies reveals the Honest Trailer for Minions 2. The trailer makes fun of nearly every aspect of The Rise of Gru, from the gibberish that the Minions speak (which they note is sometimes just Spanish) to the lack of continuity between movies. The Honest Trailer also has plenty of fun with its stacked voice cast, which includes Steve Carell and Michelle Yeoh. Check it out down below.
Despite the savagery of the Honest Trailer, Minions: The Rise of Gru earned generally positive reviews following its debut this summer. Still, it's hard not to poke fun at the silly yellow-skinned creatures, and the Honest Trailer does plenty of that. The trailer even broaches the subject of the meme-related content the movie inspired, including the odd TikTok trend of young people dressing up in suits to see Minions: The Rise of Gru. It remains to be seen whether there are more installments ahead for Gru and his pals. The Honest Trailer seems to suggest audiences are tired of their antics, but their hefty box office total would say something else.
