Resident Evil Unreal Engine 5 Fan Remake Is in Development

While the original Resident Evil game already had a remake back in the early 2000s, a team of fans is currently creating on in Unreal Engine.

p>Despite a rocky midway point when the series started gearing more towards action in entries five and six, Resident Evil is back in top form. As well as being one of the most successful horror franchises in the industry, featuring one of the most iconic save functions in gaming, it's changed up the classic formula to keep things fresh and has had a string of well-received remakes. The first installments have successfully been brought back to life with more contemporary development methods, and it looks like another is on the way.

That is to say, an unofficial remake of Resident Evil is currently in the works by an independent team. A brief trailer showing how it looks so far was spotted by DSO Gaming. The most interesting thing about this fan-made project is that it's being done in Unreal Engine 5 and will seemingly keep the fixed camera angles and tank controls of the original classic. Due to the engine it's being developed in, it looks pretty fantastic so far. At the time of writing, there doesn't appear to be a release window for this remake.

Fans are always keen to show their love of this long-running and influential franchise. There's the recent Resident Evil 9 concept video that fantastically shows a possible scenario in which the major tyrants of the games make a return, as well as a slew of remakes created by the community. Evidently, the RE games have left a lasting impression on the gaming world, and players just want to see more coming out of the woodwork.

On top of that, Humble Bundle is currently offering a deal on Resident Evil games, in which it's possible to pick up all the major games in the series, including both Revelations, for $30. It seems that right now is a good time to be an RE fan. It's an even better time for those who haven't really experienced the games before, seeing as they're now going for cheap on Humble.

With Capcom working on the remake of Resident Evil 4, plus rumors of RE9 being officially in development, the classic horror franchise is by no means finished. Since the game was rebooted back in 2017, taking it away from the action-orientated fifth and sixth entries, there's been renewed interest in Resident Evil in general. This is noted not only by the success of the 2021 follow-up Village, but also in the way that fans are keen to get in on the act and create their own remakes and remasters.

Resident Evil originally released in 1996 on PlayStation and was later ported to Nintendo DS, PC, and Sega Saturn.
