RRR Honest Trailer Pokes Fun at S.S. Rajamouli's Absurd Action Epic
A new episode of Screen Junkies' Honest Trailers series pokes fun at RRR and hails it as one of the year's best films. Written and directed by S.S. Rajamouli, RRR became an immediate box office sensation in India as it billed two of Telugu cinema's biggest stars, N.T. Rama Rao Jr. and Ram Charan, in the same film for the first time. Its massive box office performance made it the third highest-grossing film in Indian history, behind K.G.F. Chapter 2 and Rajamouli's Bahubali: The Conclusion. The movie became an international hit when its Hindi version was released on Netflix in May, which led Variance Films to re-release RRR in American cinemas in June.
Now, Screen Junkies has released an Honest Trailer for the maximalist Indian action epic. Immediately, the narrator talks about how few Americans have seen Indian films and points out how that has to change now that RRR has found a Western audience. The narration also compares Rajamouli's film to the Fast & Furious franchise, stating that those films would be better if Vin Diesel and The Rock would share a musical number. Check out the video below:
While the Honest Trailer certainly pokes fun at the sheer ridiculousness of Telugu cinema and how over-the-top many Indian films are, RRR has already been hailed as one of the best action films of recent years. The film has also introduced many audience members to the cinema of S.S. Rajamouli, arguably the most popular Indian action filmmaker of this era, with films like Yamadonga, Magadheera, Eega, and the Bahubali franchise breaking all kinds of box office records. Despite the ridiculous action and musical scenes the Honest Trailer makes fun of, RRR has already made its mark worldwide.
